Intro into Boatbuilding

Our introduction to this year began by tetsing our capabilities with the heavy machinery and basic hand tools, our limits were tested as we went through step by step process of buiding a toolbox to house all of our tools.

The first job that needed to be completed was a cutting list. A cutting list is a list of measurements that we need in order to know how much timber we need and how many cuts we can get out of each length of timber. Once we had selected our chosen timber lengths we needed to get them to the right thickness and width. For this job we used a Thicknesser, the way the thicknesser works is by feeding the lengths of timber on to the table of the thickness planer and slowly pushing it through the feed rollers then grip the timber and pull it through towards the cutter head which then cuts off the desired amount.
